Frequently Asked Questions
What does a pelvic floor physio do?

Pelvic floor physiotherapists are trained to treat the muscles of the pelvic floor, and do this by working on mobility of the tissues, strengthening of the muscles, helping with pain reduction, teaching of gentle stretches, breathing techniques, etc.

What can I expect from the assessment?

Every physiotherapy assessment starts with a detailed history, review of past medical history, and asking many questions. We begin with an objective assessment including posture, alignment, movement patterns, mobility and strength,.

Do I need an internal exam?

An internal exam is only performed if necessary and with consent, it is possible to create a treatment plan without an internal exam. However, the internal exam allows us to learn more information such as the strength and tone of the muscles, identifing organ prolapse, and scar tissue. We are respectful of the sensitive nature of this examination, and ensure we get full consent.
