About intra-oral massage therapy.

Intra-oral massage therapy is a specialized form of massage therapy that focuses on addressing tension and tightness in the muscles inside and around mouth. This type of therapy is provided by trained massage therapists wearing gloves who then assesses & works with the muscles and tissues of the jaw, face, and neck.

Intra-oral massage therapy can help treat a variety of conditions, including temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, jaw pain, headaches, and neck pain. It is particularly effective for individuals who grind their teeth, have trouble opening or closing their jaw, who clench their jaws, or have a history of dental or orthodontic work that has caused muscle tension. By releasing tension and increasing circulation in the muscles inside the mouth, intra-oral massage therapy can help alleviate pain and discomfort in the jaw and surrounding areas.

Some of the movements used in Intra-oral massage include:

-gentle circular motions along the masseter muscles located on the sides of the jaw. This helps release tension and improve jaw mobility.

-massaging temporalis muscles near the temples, using a combination of short strokes and gentle pressure to alleviate headaches and jaw pain.

-Applying pressure along the roof of the mouth can help release tension in the muscles that control the movement of the jaw. These movements work together to promote relaxation, reduce pain, and improve overall oral health.

Dentist and TMJ jaw massage at Leduc Physio

Working with a massage therapist and dentist together can provide a holistic approach to oral health care. By collaborating with both professionals, patients can receive comprehensive care that addresses both the physical and structural components of oral health. A massage therapist can help identify areas of tension and dysfunction in the muscles of the face and jaw, while a dentist can provide guidance on proper alignment of the teeth and jaws.

The benefits of integrating massage therapy with traditional dental care are numerous. By addressing muscle tension and tightness in the jaw, patients may experience improved range of motion, reduced pain, and increased comfort while eating and speaking. Working with a massage therapist can help prevent future dental issues by promoting relaxation in the muscles of the face and jaw.
