Sit in the Sunshine!
Leduc Physio’s 5 Day Happy Challenge; Day 3: Sit in the Sunshine!
Sunshine causes our bodies to release serotonin, which directly boosts mood and helps a person feel calm and focused. Exposure to the ultraviolet-B radiation in the sun’s rays also makes our skin create vitamin D. Vitamin D plays a big role in bone health, helping prevent Ricketts in children and osteoporosis and osteomalacia in adults.
There are lots of good reasons to get some sun, but excessive (UV) radiation from the sun can lead to skin cancer. 5 to 15 minutes of sunlight on your arms, hands, and face two to three times a week will produce the vitamin D-boosting benefits of sun. So, if you’re going to be outside for more than 15-minutes, protect your skin with sunscreen or clothing.
Take a selfie of you spending some time outside today and post it to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter with #leducphysio5daysofhappy and @LeducPhysio to qualify for the prize at the end of the week!
